From Coaching House to Family Home

The Coach House began its life as the coaching house for Sharow Cross, a substantial Victorian mansion built around 1851. In 1991, the Broadbent family saw something beyond the period stonework and parkland setting. They saw a place where people could be looked after properly.

Thirty-four years later, under the same family ownership, the home remains true to that original purpose. Our Matron and Deputy Matron have both been here since opening day. That kind of continuity is not a recruitment statistic. It is the foundation of everything we do.

We care for up to 42 residents in 40 single rooms and one twin room, 41 of which are en-suite. The building combines its original Victorian charm with modern standards and equipment, including two shaft lifts, hoists, and full accessibility throughout.

Nursing Care, Without the Clinical Feel

Twenty-four hour qualified nursing staff in a home that feels nothing like a hospital. We deliberately do not provide specialist dementia care, so we can focus our expertise where it belongs.

Long-Term Residential Care

A permanent home with the support you need, whether that is help with daily tasks or simply the reassurance that someone is always there.

24-Hour Nursing Care

Registered nurses on duty around the clock. Clinical care delivered by experienced professionals who know each resident by name.

Palliative & End-of-Life Care

Compassionate care at the most difficult time. We work closely with families and local palliative care teams to ensure comfort and dignity.

Respite & Convalescent Care

Short stays to give family carers a break, or to support recovery after hospital. No minimum stay required. We fit around your needs.

Days Worth Living

Good care is not just about medical competence. It is about having something to look forward to, something to laugh about, and the freedom to live on your own terms.

A Victorian Estate, A Modern Standard of Care

Sharow Cross was built around 1851 as a substantial Victorian mansion, and The Coach House served as its coaching house, where carriages were stored and horses stabled. When the Broadbent family converted it into a nursing home in 1991, they kept the character and added the care.

The building sits in its own parkland approximately one mile from Ripon city centre. The grounds include ornamental gardens, a fishpond, a courtyard overlooked by the principal lounges, and open countryside views that make it easy to forget you are only minutes from town.

Traditional charm and character with the very latest in building standards and fire regulations. That is not marketing language. That is the CQC's own assessment.

Victorian Architecture

Period stonework, generous proportions, and architectural details that modern builds simply cannot replicate. The building has soul.

Parkland Setting

Set within its own grounds, approximately one mile from Ripon. Countryside views, mature trees, and the peace that comes with space.

Ornamental Fishpond

The dining room overlooks the fishpond and gardens. Residents tell us it is one of the things that makes mealtimes special.

Modern Standards

Two shaft lifts, hoists, mobility equipment, WiFi throughout, and full compliance with current building standards and fire regulations.

Staff were welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. It felt more like a home from home rather than a care home.
